Respite

The most significant providers of care to older people are informal carers.  At Lyndoch Living we understand that a caring role can be constant, physically and emotionally draining, and may significantly impact on family, employment and social opportunity.  As such we support carers to continue their very important role by providing respite programs through a variety of options, which indirectly helps them to maintain their own health and wellbeing. We offer the following respite options, funded by the Australian Government Department of Health:

In Home and Community Access

‘Funded, flexible service delivery for carers’

This program is designed to assist carers in their caring role and to help the carer to continue living independently in their own home with appropriate care and support.

Coordination of services provided by a respite coordinator who will assist you to find the support that best meets your needs and make arrangements on your behalf.  Services provided through the In Home Respite program are broad to meet the unique needs of carers.  We meet the individual needs of carers and care recipients by providing:

  • personal hygiene support
  • day and after hours respite care
  • social and community access
  • home help assistance
  • shopping support

Overnight or Weekend Stays

(The Homestead)

‘The Homestead provides a short term break for carers in a safe, home environment’

This service is provided for carers in need of a short-term break. Located in the beautiful historic ‘Lyndoch Homestead’ overlooking the Hopkins River, those in our care will enjoy nutritious meals, meaningful activities and organised outings.

Day Stay and Overnight Weekend Respite services support the care recipient’s independence and choice by remaining responsive, efficient, flexible and diverse in program delivery. Flexibility is central to our respite services so we can, wherever possible, enable carers to continue to manage employment and other family/social commitments and responsibilities.  This program can also act as a stepping-stone for a smoother transition into possible residential aged care.

Carers can access respite on days and times that suit them under our two main services

Overnight or Weekend Respite

This service is provided for carers in need of a short term break and is available as needed dependent on availability.  Those in our care will enjoy nutritious meals which cater for special diets, activities and organised outings with a small group of peers and staff.

Day Stay Respite

This service provides respite for carers through the day and is available Monday to Friday 8:00am – 6:00pm, excluding public holidays.

Those in our care will enjoy socialisation through meal times where nutritious meals are provided, meaningful activities, outings and day trips with a small group of peers and staff. Clients are also welcome to join the ‘Men’s Group’, who meet twice a week to share individual interests and skills.

Carer Support and Friendship Group

“Take a Break" – A friendship group that helps through supporting each other.

The “Take a Break" group is comprised of carers at all stages of the carer journey, and gladly welcomes other carers who are in need of a hot cuppa and friendly face.

The opportunity to stop and to share experiences can provide a great comfort for participants.  New members quickly learn that they are not alone, that there are many people facing a similar situation.  Many friendships have grown through the group meetings and are proving to be the greatest support of all.

Attendance is free.

Meets the 3rd Tuesday of the month from 11am in the Homestead Sunroom.

Residential and Convalescent Care

Accommodation and care around the clock offering flexible respite care as required, from three to 63 days. Carers can rest assured, knowing that their loved one is in the 24 hour care of experienced and qualified staff.

While in residence, care recipients will enjoy the company of a lively community, nutritious meals which cater for special diets, and a wide range of meaningful activities to participate in at their leisure. We encourage friends and family to continue to visit, and clients to maintain independence, pursuing their own interests wherever possible.

If transferring from hospital we can arrange any required physiotherapy, or other allied health support.
