Our Environment Our Future

Lyndoch Living is committed to becoming a more sustainable organisation and reducing its impact on the environment. It has been working hard on doing so since 2007. 

The significant inroads we have made into reducing the amount of energy and water we consume, as well as introducing a recycling program.

The success of the program is the result of both resident and staff's commitment to ensuring a better environment into the future. The results to date include:

  • 7% reduction in electricity usage
  • 18% or 4.3 million litre reduction in water use
  • 7.5% reduction in gas consumption
  • Recycling of approximately 530 cubic meters household items, papers etc. that otherwise would have gone into land fill

Where to from here? The next phase for us in becoming a more sustainable organisation is likely to require a major capital injection. Currently under consideration are:

  • The purchase of a gas fired turbine to produce a cleaner more sustainable electricity supply, with a by-product being hot water, air conditioning and water.
  • Harvesting rain water for use in our laundry, which currently constitutes about 25% of our total water usage.
