The Tomlinson Centre consists of two wings - East and West. There are 26 rooms in total with an additional room designated for respite. The accommodation provided consists of rooms with a mix of private ensuites and some with shared bathroom facilities. Each wing has its own lounge area which is open for any resident and/or family member to utilise.
There are separate dining areas in each wing which look out onto outdoor garden areas. These outdoor areas are utilised by residents and families who wish to enjoy the fresh air and those who enjoy gardening. The East wing area boasts views of the Hopkins River.
The Tomlinson Centre accommodation is designed for those people assessed as having low care dementia needs. This implies that the person is able to assist with their daily care needs in some way, and is able to mobilise fairly independently. We assist our residents to age in place; meaning we strive to accommodate changes in care needs from the one facility.
Tomlinson Centre staff are committed to supporting people to maintain existing relationships and social networks. Residents are encouraged to participate in regular social activities and outings, to spend time with their families and others to enhance their friendship networks. Family and friends are also encouraged to participate in day to day activities and to take their family member on outings if at all possible.
There are areas in the Tomlinson Centre that are utilised for Lifestyle Activities and all residents are supported in attending planned programs. We offer exercise programs, laughter yoga, reading, bus trips and many others. These are outlined weekly on noticeboards for all to see.
The Tomlinson Centre also focuses on activities specifically designed for those with dementia.
These activities focus on promoting self-esteem, maintaining residual skills, providing an opportunity for enjoyment and maintaining consistency. Such activities as hand massages, gardening, cooking, simple tasks and reminiscing are provided to help residents achieve purpose and pleasure.
In order for Lyndoch Living to provide quality of care we encourage comments, suggestions and constructive criticism. The Tomlinson Centre welcomes any feedback or discussion on any areas of concern so we can continually strive to improve the quality of life for our residents.
