The most significant providers of care to older people are informal carers. The key to enabling frail older people and people with complex care needs to remain living independently at home is often due to the support they receive from their spouse, family or friends.
At Lyndoch Living we understand that this caring role can be constant, physically and emotionally draining, and may significantly impact on family, employment and social opportunity. As such we support carers to continue their very important role by providing respite through a variety of options, which indirectly helps them to maintain their own health and wellbeing.
One of these respite options, The Homestead, is an absolute stand out among other respite services locally due to its unmatched location and the charm of the building known as “The Homestead”. Overlooking the Hopkins River, The Homestead is a beautifully maintained historic home which has now become the centre of our flexible respite offering.
Through The Homestead, carers can access respite on days and times that suit them under our two main services:
This service is provided for carers in need of a short term break and is available for use every weekend. Week nights can also be provided dependent on availability. Weekend Respite can be enjoyed by clients for any amount of time between Friday afternoon and Monday morning including public holidays.
Those in our care will enjoy nutritious meals which cater for special diets, meaningful activities and organised outings with a small group of peers and staff.
This service provides respite for carers through the day and is available from Monday to Friday 8:00am – 6:00pm, excluding public holidays.
Those in our care will enjoy socialisation through meaningful activities, outings and day trips with a small group of peers and staff. Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea are provided, and special diets can be catered for.
Clients of Day Stay Respite are also welcome to join the “Men’s Group”, who meet twice a week at the Homestead to share individual interests and skills.
Day Stay, Overnight and Weekend Respite services support the care recipient’s independence and choice by remaining responsive, efficient, flexible and diverse in program delivery. Flexibility is central to our respite services so we can, whenever possible, enable carers to continue to manage employment and other family/ social commitments and responsibilities.
An additional benefit of using the Homestead Overnight or Weekend Respite program is that it can act as a stepping stone for a smoother transition into a level of residential aged care. If and when the time comes to enter residential care, the transition is seamless as all the complexities of the care system are minimised through the support and advice from our staff, not to mention the added benefit of entering a familiar environment.
Homestead Respite is available to carers of frail older people or people living with a dementia with low level care needs. An Aged Care Assessment is not required. Care recipients will be assessed by the Homestead Respite Coordinator to ensure their suitability for the level of care offered through this service.
Referrals to the Homestead are considered and prioritised on the basis of need and are accepted from any source, including the carer, doctor, or other health service providers. If preferred, referrals may be directed to us using the Service Coordination Tool Template (SCTT).
Respite at the Homestead is a Commonwealth Government funded initiative through the National Respite for Carers Program with a small additional fee required from recipients.
Adding further flexibility to this respite service, Lyndoch Living provides a host of other respite options, including In Home Respite. To find out more, please contact us about the ways in which we can support you in your caring role.
