Lyndoch Living the leaders in providing residential and community aged care services in South West Victoria have been chosen as the only regional provider of aged care services in Victoria to access the recently launched aged care Graduate Nurse Program.

“The aged care Graduate Nurse Program is a new and innovative program to facilitate the next generation of leaders to care for our older Australians in both community and residential aged care,” said Lyndoch Living’s Director of Nursing Steve Demeye.

The Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing have funded the partnership of Aged & Community Care Victoria (ACCV) and Monash University (MU) to develop and deliver a graduate program for registered nurses who wish to pursue a career in aged care.

“It will offer graduates the opportunity to understand the human face of aged care nursing, the many benefits of working with older people including the long term relationships and opportunities to implement person centred care.” said Mr Demeye.

The Graduate Nurse Program will commence on 20 February 2012 and will run over 12 months including a seven week theoretical program. The graduate year will be focused on encouraging the graduates to become the best aged care nurse they can be.

The graduates will have access to a seven week specific program of learning developed by Monash University about aged care nursing as well as learning in a variety of settings; high care, low care, dementia specific wards, palliative care and community care

Those who have recently graduated as a registered nurse or have already completed an acute graduate program and are looking to transition into aged care will be eligible to take part in this new and exciting program.
