THURSDAY 20th OCTOBER
Mark Sonego has been announced as the 2012 recipient of the prestigious ‘Dr Michael Page Travelling Scholarship’ during the Annual General Meeting of Lyndoch Warrnambool Inc, held October 4th, 2011.
Mr Sonego, the Coordinator of Lyndoch Living’s Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Programs, will use the scholarship to attend the 9th World Congress on Brain Injury in Edinburgh, Scotland next year. He will also visit and consult with the National Managed Clinical Network for ABI, an Edinburgh based organisation renowned for their work in improving access to and the quality of services for children and adults with an ABI.
Mr Sonego says “I attended this Congress when it was in Australia three years ago, and the calibre of the international speakers was excellent.”
On announcing the winner, Chief Executive Officer Rhys Boyle commented “Mark is the lynchpin of our own ABI program, and played a pivotal role in its recent successes in relation to the accreditation of that program.”
Mr Sonego, is also currently in the process of applying to make a presentation in Edinburgh of Lyndoch Living’s own ABI programs. “What we do is quite different to what is done elsewhere in the world, so while I will ultimately be there to learn, it is also a great opportunity to generate some interest in the success of our own programs.”
For more than ten years now, ‘Dr Michael Page Travelling Scholarship’ has been awarded annually by the Board to a staff member to attend professional development activities in their chosen vocation that would otherwise have been seen as prohibitive because of the travel costs involved.
The Dr Michael Page Travelling Scholarship is named after a staunch supporter and past Board member and President, Dr Michael Page, who passionately believed that the professional development of staff was the cornerstone of Lyndoch’s success.
Covering preapproved associated expenses to a value of up to $7,500, the 2012 scholarship offering attracted a series of extremely high standard of applications from all divisions within the organisation this year.
“The Board are confident that the 2012 scholarship will undoubtedly strengthen Mr Sonego’s already excellent skills in the area of ABI case management, and that the clients of our South West program will be the ultimate beneficiaries of the knowledge he will gather as a result of his Scottish study tour,” says Mr Boyle.
