Garvoc born and bred Commonwealth Games Marathon runner Virginia Moloney returned to the South West last Thursday to officially open the new Lyndoch Living Rehabilitation Services space ‘The Stables’.

The appearance of the local sporting star capped off a week of celebratory activities at the newly renovated premises located at Lyndoch’s Waterfront Retirement Living community on Marfell Road.

“These new premises will be the hub from which we will provide innovative and leading rehabilitation services for our ageing community, now and into the future,” Lyndoch CEO Doreen Power said at the opening.

“We are delighted to welcome Virginia Moloney to officially open this exciting new space.  We look forward to hearing about her experiences at this year’s Commonwealth Games as well as, hopefully, some of her health and exercise tips.”

Lyndoch’s Rehabilitation team ran “Running All Week for Exercise Australia by counting the kilometers covered by staff and clients alike on their gym equipment.

“We thought it would be fun to count up the kilometers covered on the treadmill, nu steps and rowers over the week to see what town we could ‘get to’” said Belinda Van Zelst, Acting Manager of Rehabilitation at Lyndoch.

“We started at Warrnambool and headed towards Sydney, and with the help of some of our keener runners on staff ended up getting close to Cressy, a great effort!” she said.

Staff and clients nominated their town and a prize was awarded to the person nominating the town closest to the finishing tally.

Other activities over the week included open morning and afternoon teas, come and try sessions, walking groups, Pilates and Thai Chi beginner classes.
