The Stables Rehabilitation Services by Lyndoch Living offers a planned approach to community care and services that aims to help clients re-establish daily living skills and community connections through goal-oriented programs. Catherine Moloney, is the Allied Health & Reablement Manager at The Stables and she sees the role her team has in community health care as caring for the whole person.
In 2018 seventy-six year old Jim Williams was told by his doctor that he needed to get an exercise program and work with an exercise physiologist to increase his strength and stamina. Jim had always considered himself a fairly fit an active person but suffered a few niggling aches and pains whilst digging in the garden or painting a wall. His doctor made a referral to The Stables for an assessment. Jim tells the story that he had reluctantly arrived for his appointment and after some trepidation he went through the assessment and used muscles and did body movements he hadn’t worked in years. By the end of this first session Jim was hooked and couldn’t wait for his next appointment.
Jim has been ‘working on’ one of his buddies to join this exclusive gym and he feels exercise is beneficial to men to live well and live longer. Jim said that The Stables is well equipped and the staff are able to advise and monitor your health and progress while you exercise. Before the COVID-19 restrictions Jim averaged three exercise sessions per week, and although a home program had been set up by Colin (exercise physiologist), Jim feels that he has probably dropped a bit of condition post COVID.
Jim migrated to Australia from the United States in 1966, arriving in Brisbane, after having met a number of Australian larrikans during his university days who encouraged him to head down-under, with their easy-going personalities. Jim was a high school science/maths teacher and in his retirement he enjoys drawing and painting. He is thrilled with his personal achievements with his health and overall fitness, and loves showing off on the various pieces of equipment, his favourite being the Endurance 5 Elliptical Cross Trainer, which he was tempted to purchase to have at home, but decided that he would then miss out on the other benefits of coming to The Stables. He loves the Australian way of life, and is keen to keep doing what he loves for many years.
