Pattie found settling into life at Lyndoch Living easy

Lyndoch Living resident Pattie has settled into life at Lyndoch easily and has made many new friends and reacquainted herself with some old friends. Knowing that she could not always live independently, Pattie decided to move into Lyndoch for many reasons, such as safety and social connections.

Originally from Millicent, Pattie moved to Warrnambool to study nursing. She soon met and married Owen, a local carpenter from Allansford. They have two children, nine grandchildren, 18 grandchildren, and now boast three great-great-grandchildren.

Pattie and Owen owned the Panmure Hotel for over 13 years. They met a lot of wonderful people and many larrikins during that time. As a team, they worked hard, six days a week with every Sunday off.

A keen knitter, Pattie is never far from her knitting and loves making gorgeous blankets for her family. For years Pattie was a member of the CWA at Panmure and was always keen to enter her knitted items for the show. Judging by the prizes she has won over the years, she is very good at it! Pattie also loved sewing and use to make all of her own clothes. Later in life, Pattie continued with her artistic talent and made ceramic figurines which she delicately hand-painted. Discovering golf in her 70’s Pattie loved the game and would play in local tournaments.

Pattie’s father was a drover, and she grew up riding horses. Pattie and Owen shared a love of horses. They owned a racehorse called Zarocco, which won the Distance Improvers’ Handicap in Camperdown in 1983. Fifty-four years earlier, Owen’s father’s racehorse won the same race.

These days, Pattie still enjoys knitting and keeps active cooking, going on bus trips, listening to music, and playing bingo!
