A gap year has turned into so much more for Lyndoch Living team member Natalie

Meet Natalie, who has been a part of the Lyndoch team for a year and a half. After completing Year 12, Nat was looking for a gap year position, with the plan of going to Uni to complete a Nursing degree. However, she had a few friends working in the Hotel Services area at Lyndoch, which encouraged her to apply for a position.

Nat came into aged care without much knowledge of what the industry was like but thought it would give her an insight into a career in nursing. “It has given me so many opportunities to talk with different nurses and shown me the versatility of the field,” said Nat.

Nat has worked across many areas of the organisation, starting out at the May Noonan Centre doing hospitality pantry shifts. She then gained experience with the Living@Home Meals team, assisting them with packing meals and communicating with community clients. Nat has also worked in Café Connect and now works casually across various pantries in Lyndoch while studying for her Bachelor of Nursing at Deakin University.

“The Hotel Services position offers me so much flexibility while I undertake my studies, and I have felt so supported by the team,” she said.

Nat’s day includes preparing and serving main meals, morning and afternoon tea, and most importantly, ensuring each resident receives the perfect cup of tea.

Nat has loved working with the Hotel Services team. She has continued to develop her communication skills through the need to interact with people of all different abilities. She is so glad she got her foot in the door, and she is looking forward to what her future degree may bring.

Thanks for caring Nat!
