Shout out to Alicia, who is one of Lyndoch Livings Lifestyle Coordinators and Personal Care Workers.
Alicia has worked at Lyndoch for close to six years, and before this was a Manager at McDonald’s. Her favourite part of working at McDonald’s was when the elderly customers would come in. She loved chatting with them and making them smile. This, combined with having a special bond with her grandparents, shaped her aged care career aspirations.
After completing her Certificate in Aged Care, Alicia began working as a Personal Care Worker throughout Lyndoch Living. She built great relationships with the residents. One particular resident, who was moving from the nursing home into the dementia wing, helped Alicia develop her passion for caring for residents living with dementia. Because of their close relationship, Alicia decided to pick up some shifts in APC to keep in touch. After just one shift, Alicia fell in love with caring for those living with dementia, and to this day, it’s her true passion.
“I love putting in the extra effort to make a resident feel good. Whether it be helping them pick their outfit for the day or asking if they would like some lippy on, it all makes such a positive impact on their day,” she said.
Alicia’s role is diverse as she does both Personal Care work as well as Coordinating Lifestyle activities. Each day brings something different, with tasks such as baking, crafts, outings, and one-on-one chats being just some of the things Alicia enjoys.
Alicia has recently become a new mum and loves to spend her spare time surrounded by her family.
Thanks for caring Alicia!
