Meet May Noonan Centre Assistant Manager Amy, who describes herself as a happy, friendly and supportive person.
Amy chose nursing as her career path as her mum was a nurse, and she wanted a career that would make her feel proud and provide a sense of achievement. After completing her studies at SWTAFE, Amy began working at May Noonan 13 years ago as a Personal Care Worker doing the night shift. Many opportunities have helped her grow and develop as a nurse during this time, and now working as the Assistant Manager.
“I have been so lucky throughout my time at May Noonan to have had some really great mentors and team members. I have always been encouraged to take the next step and keep challenging myself. I don’t think I would have pursued anything like this without the help of those people,” Amy said.
Amy’s current role involves liaising with different teams throughout Lyndoch and May Noonan and still undertaking regular nursing duties, which she loves.
“I’m so lucky in my role because I can still do what I love, which is nursing and having one-on-one time with the residents. I’m also involved in making changes and improvements, which is such a great opportunity to have,” she said.
Amy’s advice to someone thinking about a career in nursing or aged care is to take those first steps and get exposure because once you see what it is really like, you’ll love it.
“It’s the kind of career that can take you anywhere. There are so many roles that I didn’t know existed before working in aged care, and there really is something for everyone.”
In Amy’s spare time, she loves being surrounded by family and spending time at home on her hobby farm.
Thanks for sharing your story Amy.
