Meet Lyndoch Living resident Frank.
Frank was born in 1929 in Warrnambool, growing up on a farm in Nirranda with his seven brothers and sisters. Growing up on the farm, Frank was very hands-on. From a young age, he would get out and help his dad clear the land, often trying to lift things that were too big for him. When he would try to pick up heavy branches, his dad would say, “give it a yank son,” which led to his nickname ‘Yank’.
At around 17, Frank began playing football for the @NirrandaFootballNetballClub as a full back. He played and was involved with the club for many years, winning many premierships and even being Club Secretary for some time.
Frank married and had five children. When he was around 40 years old, he purchased a dairy farm in Elingamite. At the age of 50, Frank suffered a health scare and decided he didn’t want to die milking cows, so he sold the farm, moved to Cobden, started a wood cutting business, and delivered wood all around the region.
In 1974 Frank’s daughter joined the Scouts in Cobden. He became involved in the club. After learning that they weren’t very financially viable, he suggested starting up weekly card tournaments to try and raise some money. Even though his suggestion was quietly laughed at. The club’s debt had been paid off within two years, and the tournaments continued for over 40 years.
In 2015 Frank was reunited with an old friend, Helen. The pair fell in love and married in 2017. In June 2021, Frank moved into Lyndoch and is best known for his cheeky personality and a firm handshake.
Thanks for sharing Frank.
