Meet Lyndoch living team member Katherine, who describes herself as genuine, caring, and patient.
Since Katherine was a young girl, she knew she wanted a career in health care. Over the years, Katherine has had experience in many different areas of health and completed her studies as a Personal Care Worker (PCW).
Fourteen months ago, even though Katherine loved working as a dental nurse, she decided she needed a career change. So, after chatting with friends who worked at Lyndoch, she applied for a PCW position in the Living@Home department.
She successfully gained the position and began working in the community. It didn’t take long for Katherine to know she had made the right decision with her career change, saying, “being able to assist our community clients to live a happy and safe life in their homes was instantly rewarding.”
Since working as a PCW, one of Katherine’s favourite memories was taking clients on outings. “I had a client who had lived in Warrnambool for most of her life, and she had never been to Hopkins Falls or along the Great Ocean Road. So one day, we went out, and the smile on her face seeing these new places was just amazing. She was so happy and grateful; it made me feel so fulfilled,” Katherine said.
Katherine progressed to become a Customer Solutions Officer and is now filling in a maternity leave position as Business Supervisor for the Living@Home department.
“I love where I am with my career, and I’m so glad I took those steps to make a change when I did. Working in the community space is rewarding, and it is a space that is constantly growing. I can’t wait to see how my career in aged care progresses.”
Thanks for caring Katherine.
