Meet Lyndoch Living team member Kailyn, who describes herself as hard-working, motivated and fun.
Kailyn’s Lyndoch journey began in 2018 while completing her Year 11 studies at Warrnambool College, when she participated in the Future Leaders of Industry program.
Growing up, Kailyn knew she wanted a career where she could help people, so she chose the healthcare industry for the program. As Lyndoch supports the program, Kailyn was assigned to Lyndoch’s CEO as her mentor and completed work experience across different areas within Lyndoch. She said this was a great experience as it showed her the variety of opportunities available within aged care and enhanced her enterprise and technical skills.
Once the program finished, Kailyn was offered a position in Lyndoch’s Café Connect, which she saw as an excellent opportunity to get her foot in the door. Then, when Kailyn finished Year 12, she continued working as part of the Hotel Services team and began studying her Bachelor of Nursing at Deakin.
While Kailyn was in her first year of study, she took up a Personal Care role and believes working in the field while studying is hugely beneficial.
“It really helped me build up my confidence before going into placement. I have been able to develop my clinical skills as well as my communication skills,” Kailyn said.
Kailyn is now in her second year of university and loves how rewarding the field is. She’s looking forward to her upcoming placements and said she is continuously learning new things, which she values.
Kailyn is also a mentor to other students at Deakin, which involves talking to school students about the courses offered and the different pathways available. In addition, Kailyn loves all things sport, fitness and nutrition, along with spending time with friends.
Thanks for caring Kailyn!
