Meet Lyndoch Living team member Val, who describes herself as caring, empathetic, and resilient.
Val has been working in the aged care industry for almost five years. Before moving into Aged Care, Val spent many years working casually as a Family Liaison Officer at a local school and working in an administration position at the Koroit Pharmacy.
Looking for something more stable and knowing aged care was a growing industry, Val decided to complete her studies to become a Personal Care Worker.
After completing her studies, Val put in an expression of interest at Lyndoch in the Living@Home department. As a result, she successfully gained a position as a Personal Care Worker covering the Portland area and eventual Warrnambool. After the first shift, Val knew she loved the work and enjoyed being part of the Living@Home team.
During her career, one of Val’s favourite memories has been singing with one of her clients. “You have to know what works for each client and personalise your care to suit them. You also have fun while doing it,” Val said.
Around 18 months ago, Val’s career aspirations guided her to take up an opportunity to learn the Customer Solutions role within the Living@Home department. Some of the key parts of this role involve scheduling personal care, home care, social support, and organising appointments for community clients. As a result, Val enjoys the diversity her job brings.
“Every day offers something different; that’s what is great about my job,” she said.
Val loves sewing and reading in her spare time and has spent the last 15 years volunteering at the Port Fairy Folk Festival.
Thanks for sharing Val.
