Lyndoch Living resident Molly tells us about her wonderful life.

Lyndoch Living resident Molly is best known for her great sense of humour.

Born in 1929, Molly grew up on her family farm in Nirranda South with her three older brothers and spent a lot of time helping out on the family farm.

“I would milk the cows, do a lot of the cooking and cleaning around the house to help mum and dad,” said Molly.

Molly attended school at Nirranda South and began working at a boarding house in Peterborough when she turned 16. At 18, she moved into Warrnambool with her family and became a cook at several pubs and hotels across Warrnambool, including the Commercial Hotel.

One of Molly’s incredible talents as a young girl was playing the piano. As her brothers were also quite musical, they decided to start a band called ‘The Tanners’.

“We would travel around the district and play at the Saturday night dances. We had some really great times together,” she said.

At a local dance, Molly met her future husband, Ken. The pair hit it off and married at the Warrnambool Church of England in 1952. Molly and Ken went on to have three children, and over the years, their family has grown to include 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

When Molly was in her 40’s, she took a trip to England. Her father was from England and had told many stories about it when she was younger, so it was somewhere she knew she had to see, saying, “I enjoyed visiting different countries and seeing all their famous landmarks.”

Molly began accessing the Lyndoch Living Homestead support group a few years ago. As her needs changed, she decided to make Lyndoch Living her home and said, “I’m very happy to be here.”

Thanks for sharing Molly.
