Lyndoch Living resident Nancye has always called Warrnambool home. Born in 1938 to parents Mary and Harold, Nancye was the youngest sibling of nine.
Growing up, Nancye was just like any other kid. She loved playing outside with her siblings. She attended Jamison Street Primary and Warrnambool Tech until she was 15.
After leaving school, Nancye worked in the office at the Warrnambool Veterinary Clinic, where she stayed for 26 years. Then, she went on to work at the Shell Depot in Dennington and was provided with many learning opportunities throughout the 20 years she was there. Finally, Nancye secured an admin position at Whalers Freight, retiring at 75.
The hard work didn’t stop there for Nancye. “I was always secretary of something,” said Nancye.
“When my Nephews began rowing, I took the opportunity to become Club Secretary and did this for many years. I was also Secretary of the Ladies Committee at South Warrnambool Football Netball Club for a while.”
As much as Nancye loved her work, her biggest passion was travel. So in her early twenties, Nancey set sail on a 20-day cruise. Going from Melbourne to New Guinea, then to Fiji, and finishing in New Zealand.
Then, in 1986 Nancye and a small group from the rowing club set off on an adventure to Europe to watch the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh.
After the games, they hired a camper van. Together, they toured through Europe, visiting France, Switzerland, Germany, and everything in between.
Her last big trip was to Alaska. “We flew to and stayed in Vancouver, then boarded a ship to head up the inland passage of Alaska. It was so magical. We had helicopter rides over glaciers and went dog sledding. It was like something in the movies,” she said.
Thanks for sharing Nancye.
