A message from Acting CEO, Ted Rayment

On Friday 9 September, I started as Acting CEO at Lyndoch Living.

I commenced the job knowing we had challenges. I also knew we had dedicated staff, committed to turning things around.

While an enormous amount of work had been completed by our staff, we faced a series of negative reviews about the quality of care offered at Lyndoch Living.

Things needed to change.

We needed an action plan – as identified by the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission – that we could transparently follow.

That’s what we are doing, responding to 41 action items, systemically and methodically.

On Monday 24 October, Lyndoch Living will formally respond to our notice from The Commission for nine items of non-compliance at the Lyndoch Hostel. We have also put in place a continuous improvement plan across our aged care homes, addressing the remaining 32 continuous improvement action items.

Over coming months, we look forward to demonstrating to The Commission the steps we have taken and actioning any other changes they say are needed. We also look forward to working with our residents and their families, to identify and respond to any concerns.

We acknowledge WorkSafe Victoria and The Commission for their guidance and the State and Commonwealth governments for their support. We are also grateful to our local health care partners Terang and Mortlake Health, Moyne Health Services and South West Healthcare for their ongoing support.

South West Healthcare in particular provided extraordinary support and stability, generously seconding Jamie Brennan and two other senior experienced health and aged care professionals at a very difficult time.

We thank our residents and their families for their patience and support.

We also thank every member of the Lyndoch Living team for the role they have played to implement higher quality standards.

But we have far more work to do, training our people, enhancing our governance and further improving our standard of care. We’re committed to doing things better every day, supporting our residents and rebuilding the trust of our community, addressing the outstanding action items and will heed any other changes needed.
