Meet team member Elise, whose role is to provide administrative support to the Quality and Continuous Improvement team. However, Elise started as a Receptionist in the Hostel and Nursing Home areas.
Elise’s career journey commenced when she left school at 16 to start a hairdressing apprenticeship at Men Only Hair. Her career journey has also included barbering, management, and dental assistant.
Due to a passion for travel and snowboarding, Elise worked in the ski fields in Canada and Mt Buller. She worked in the control centre as a Personal Assistant/Communications and was part of the start-up crew. Elise would climb the lift towers, check the lifts and ensure everything was ready by 9 am. The position was high pressure, and she would often step in as second in charge to manage the team.
Elise has lived in Cairns, working at Bridges Resort in customer service before moving back to Warrnambool, where she worked at the Bank of Melbourne and completed a Certificate III in Individual Support at SWTAFE.
Elise describes herself as an empathic and compassionate person who has been fortunate to work with high management teams.
“Through these experiences building a rapport with existing clients is an important trait when interacting with people. However, each individual interaction matters. You need to actively listen, place the resident at the centre, and allow them to speak.”
Elise said every day is different. “You always have set daily tasks, but you take on anything that comes up. You are always learning new ways to do things.”
“There are many different career and growth opportunities within aged care. It’s a community made up of all departments that work together as a team to ensure the quality of life for residents.”
Thanks for caring Elise.
