Lyndoch Living Resident Margaret is happy to call Lyndoch home

  • 0

Margaret Heard has called Lyndoch Living home for just over nine years, joking that on her 10th anniversary, that she thinks a bar should be named after her!

Born in Hamilton, into a farming family, Margaret was the youngest of six and said she had a lovely childhood. From the age of five, she loved to cook, it was something that made her happy, and she enjoyed cooking with her family. She also enjoyed knitting and sewing and was involved in a girls marching group where she competed all over the region.

At 16, Margaret met Ian, her husband of almost 60 years. They created a beautiful family, having four children together. Two of the girls were born within 12 months of each other, which was challenging at times, but Margaret says that is one of her proudest achievements. The pair also have eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Still, Margaret says that her friends and the Lyndoch team are also an important part of her family.

Margaret came into Lyndoch after having back surgery and being told that she would never walk again. However, after being in Lyndoch for a while, she decided to give walking a go again. Determined and with the help of the Lyndoch team, Margaret began re-learning how to walk. Her determination paid off, and she can now walk up and down the passages using her frame.

One of Margaret’s favourite memories since being at Lyndoch was teaching primary school kids how to knit. “Seeing their smiling faces walk through the door always made my day,” she said. Margaret still enjoys her cooking at Lyndoch and loves to be social and joining in on all the activities. Margaret appreciates everything Lyndoch has been able to do for her and is very happy to call it home.
