SDS Students Work Placement Graduation at Lyndoch 2019

  • 0

Congratulations to Alex Annett and Nikita Triance who graduated today from the Lyndoch Living /Warrnambool SDS Work Placement Program.

Alex and Nikita have spent the past 6 months, one day a week throughout the school terms, attending Lyndoch’s Social Support and Homestead respite programs, working with the team who run programs for community clients and gaining valuable skills and experience, including assisting with activities, socialisation, exercise classes, food service and administration.

Mandy White, Lyndoch Living’s Home Support and Wellness Manager, presented Alex and Nikita with a certificate of completion and graduation gifts at a special morning tea in the activities centre, with the day centre clients, staff from the Warrnambool Special Development School, family and special guest Tim Gainey from the Warrnambool Seahawks. Nikita’s day started with a visit to the Pure Living Hair & Beauty Salon where she had her hair curled and a little pampering. Alex is a huge basketball fan (sometimes needs to be reminded what he is supposed to be doing instead of talking to anyone who will listen about his favourite team the Warrnambool Seahawks) so a visit from Tim Gainey actually silenced him for a bit!

Nikita will be taking on a new challenge in 2020 with more study at South West TAFE and a placement at a Child Care Centre, where she hopes to use the skills learnt at Lyndoch. Alex is hoping to continue learning more skills with a further work placement next year and working towards a Community Services Certificate.

Warrnambool SDS Senior Teacher Lisa Lee praised Alex and Nikita on their enthusiastic participation in the program and also thanked Lyndoch’s staff, including Roselie Morey, the Education Manager who first met with Lisa early in the year to discuss opportunities for the SDS students to participate in Work Placement programs at Lyndoch.

We look forward to extending the partnership with new students in 2020.
