COVID-19 Vaccination - FAQs

Lyndoch Living welcomes the Australian Government’s roll-out of the COVID-19 Vaccination Program for all aged care residents and team members.

We are closely following the Australian Department of Health’s direct health advice, and as part of our commitment to the Lyndoch Community, we will continue to provide you with information to engage positively with the program and feel informed and supported.

COVID-19 Vaccination – voluntary and free for all in aged care

As per the Department of Health’s guidance, all COVID-19 vaccines in Australia are voluntary and free, including for residents and team members in aged care.

The vaccine is a significant public health initiative to help reduce the virus’s health risks on all older Australians and our team members. We must remember that every person who chooses to receive the vaccine helps to protect others’ health in our community.

Who will get the vaccinations and how will it be rolled out?

The Department of Health is managing the roll-out of its vaccination program according to priority suburbs, towns and groups. Prioritisation is being made based on levels of potential exposure to ensure that the roll-out is as fair and equitable as possible. For more information on when you can get the COVID-19 vaccination visit: https://www.health.gov.au/initiatives-and-programs/covid-19-vaccines/getting-vaccinated-for-covid-19/when-will-i-get-a-covid-19-vaccine

As the roll-out continues and more supply is available, others will be prioritised and invited in the coming weeks and months. How you can be prepared for the COVID-19 vaccination

The Department of Health has developed a wealth of information on preparing for the COVID-19 vaccination. You can access this via their website https://www.health.gov.au/resources/publications/covid-19-vaccination-preparing-for-covid-19-vaccination

Please complete the Department of Health’s COVID-19 Vaccination Consent Form in order to receive the vaccine when it’s made available to you.

Check your eligibility

In the national rollout, COVID-19 vaccines will be available in phases. Groups of people get the vaccination at different times. The groups are Phase 1a, Phase 1b, Phase 2a, Phase 2b and Phase 3. Check to see if you can book a COVID-19 vaccination yet using the Government’s simple Vaccine Eligibility Checker: https://covid-vaccine.healthdirect.gov.au/eligibility

Are the COVID-19 vaccines safe?

Before vaccines are made available in Australia, they must pass strict Australian safety standards set by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).

All vaccines are thoroughly tested for safety before they are approved for use in Australia. This includes careful analysis of clinical research, ingredients, chemistry, manufacturing and other factors. Find out more about the safety of COVID-19 vaccines at  https://www.health.gov.au/initiatives-and-programs/covid-19-vaccines/learn-about-covid-19-vaccines/are-covid-19-vaccines-safe

What vaccinations will be available?

Two vaccines, the Pfizer vaccine and the AstraZeneca vaccine, have been approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) for use in the Australian Government’s COVID-19 vaccination program.
